GET ENGAGED

We couldn't do what we do without the support of our sponsors and our community. There are plenty of ways to make a contribution to our positive social impact. Either lend us some of your time, sponsor a specific cause or become a private donor. As a sewing member, you also make an important contribution to achieving our goals. Which ever way suits you the best, we are grateful.

We generate almost 10% of our income through donations and all funds are put towards our work as an independent non-profit organisation focused on integration and education opportunities for those from refugee backgrounds.

Private contributions are crucial as they allow us to remain independent and to continue offering our services free of charge to those who need them.

By becoming a supporter of our tax-exempt association you will play an essential role in our mission towards an inclusive society.

Volunteers are the heart and soul of community. They lead the Open Sewing Course on Thursdays, contribute to community management, and support the production team in their tasks. Volunteering is a great way to meet new people, learn new skills, and have an active role in our community.

Volunteers at Social Fabric should have a basic understanding of sewing, at least B1 German language level, and willingness to commit for at least four months. However, we are open to all applications.

If you are interested in volunteering or would like to know more information, please contact us info (at) socialfabric.ch.

Open Sewing Course

The Open Sewing Course is a part of our social inclusion program and serves as an entry point into our community. It's free of charge for individuals with a refugee background and takes place twice a week on Thursday mornings and afternoons.

The Open Sewing Course is designed as an accessible hobby for people with a refugee background, aiding in their integration into Swiss society. It provides relief from isolation, encourages participants to make connections within the group, and allows them to practice their German language skills. Sewing, as a medium, has proven to have therapeutic effects and brings joy to those who engage in it.

By sponsoring the Open Sewing Course, you contribute invaluable quality to the lives of individuals who have experienced war, conflict, or other traumatic events and are now forging a new home in Switzerland.

Stipendium

Once a person has completed the Open Sewing Course, the Stipendium is the next step in our social inclusion program. The concept is quite simple: The course graduate may apply for a Stipendium, which grants them free access to our Community offerings.

This means the graduate can join other members for the Social Sewing Course with guidance, Independent Sewing, or Workshops, or even take an active role in the community and organize sewing-related events themselves.

This way, they can maintain their sewing hobby while expanding their support network in a familiar and safe environment.

We award approximately 10 to 15 Stipendiums per year, which are generously donated to graduates by kind strangers.
