Zürich-based fashion designer Mario Puntillo (www.mariopuntillo.ch) is offering a special deal for an introductory sewing course at Social Fabric. I have met Mario a couple of times now, and he is full of information about the local design scene, clothing construction, and production. The topic of the course will be how to make a simple pair of summer trousers. You will start with a basic pattern, and will learn how to modify this pattern according to your own measurements and style preferences. The course will be offered on three Monday evenings in March (the 16th, 23rd, and 30th; 7-10pm), and the cost is only CHF 150 (introductory special offer).
Also, as many of you know, I’m very interested in sustainability, and I volunteer for a local organization called GreenBuzz that organises sustainability-related events and educational workshops. Next week (March 5; 7pm – 10pm) Social Fabric is hosting an apèro, at which attendees are invited to make a 1 minute pitch about any project idea they have related to the topic of sustainability. The cost of the apèro including wine and snacks is CHF 10 (additional donations to GreenBuzz are much appreciated). To attend, please sign up via Eventbrite.
In March, we will run our first longer course for beginners, which will be four parts, and take place on Saturday March 7th, 14th, 21st, and 28th (10am – 1pm). Participants will learn how to sew with woven fabric, with felt, and with knitted fabric, and will learn all the basics of how to use a sewing machine. Please send us an email at email@example.com to sign up.
As usual, we are offering free sewing times on Tuesdays (7pm – 10pm) and Friday afternoons (1pm – 4pm). This is a fun way of meeting others who are interested in sewing, and learning some new skills from other members of the new community. New participants are warmly welcome!
See you soon!
