Jelena (or Lena as we call her at Social Fabric) has a wide range of know-how when it comes to sewing. Whether you are a complete beginner or looking for someone to guide you through the tricky techniques, she is the teacher for you. Her lessons are designed to teach you all you need to know about the basics of sewing: how to work with ready-made patterns, which sewing techniques to use for the project at hand, and how to master the sewing machines, overlocks, and other tools.
She has an especially keen eye for details, such as pockets, collars, and lining. Through her expertise and teaching experience, she knows how to make every person feel comfortable while building up their skill and learning their way around the world of sewing.
What Jelena is best known for, however, are perfectly fitted skirts. If this is something that has been on your bucket list for a long time, get inspired by her Instagram and book a lesson.
Jelena studied dressmaking for 3 years at Tallinn School of Technologies in her homeland Estonia. Upon finishing her studies, she worked as a bespoke tailor for a local atelier. For several years, she tailored clothes for clients with different shapes, tastes, and sizes. Being a person of broad interests, she continued her studies, this time in Economics. This led her down a different career path for several years, until she rediscovered her passion for sewing upon moving to Switzerland. She started to make toys for children, then summer skirts for herself and her friends, and continued to other articles of clothing.
Her other hobbies are stop-motion animation and hiking.
She learned about Social Fabric in 2017 and volunteered to help out in our Open Sewing Class for Refugees. Later on, she started to teach the beginners’ course here. For her, it is a special pleasure to see the happiness of a person who has just finished their first sewing project, and she is here to share her skills and expertise with everyone interested.
