I am special because…
… my design was inspired by African refugees living in Zurich
… I was printed and sewn by women who used to work in the sex industry in India. Buying me helps these women and their children to live a life of freedom.
… by buying me you help to build stronger communities and transparent textile supply chains.
The Story behind the Product
This backpack was designed by Social Fabric and was sewn and printed by the women of Freeset in India. Freeset is a Social enterprise that retrains and employs former prostitutes in Calcutta.
The story behind the design:
In autumn, 2017, we asked our African team members to collect their favourite ideas based on African textile prints. We sent this inspiration to a Finnish textile designer, Sanna Lehti, and she came up with a variety of designs. Then we asked for the votes, of you, our community. Based on the public voting, we chose the three favourites!
The backpacks are made from 100% GOTS-certified cotton fabric, made in India.
Size: 36cm x 28cm x 14cm
Colour: black with turquoise, orange, and off-white print
