Make unique tote bags, t-shirts and other products with simple hand printing techniques.
First you will learn the basics of different textile printing techniques and try them out: printing with stamps (even a lemon can serve as a stamp!), stencils and also using a screen. Then you will get lots of inspiration for designing your own prints: how to find online pictures that work for textile printing, modify motifs and how to repeat a pattern – we are really getting creative in this workshop! At the end you will have time to print some beautiful and unique products for yourself or as a gift.
Some fabric pieces for practising and one plain t-shirt or a tote bag are included in the course price and on top of that you probably also have time to print something else: bring with you fabric or products from natural fibres (cotton tote bag, t-shirt, jeans, pillow case, hoodie…) you would like to decorate with your unique designs! We have a small selection of organic plain cotton fabrics, so you can also purchase materials from us. Bring your own laptop with you (we also have few laptops to borrow).
No previous experience in printing is required – all levels, including beginners, are welcome!
The course is led by Helka Mäki, qualified textile handicrafts and computer skills teacher from Finland. She teaches in English, but can also guide in German.
This course runs from 10.00 – 16.00, with a one hour lunch break in the middle. Bring your own lunch (a refrigerator and microwave are available). Alternatively, there is a bakery in the neighbourhood where you can buy lunch. The workshop is located in Social Fabric’s atelier at Eichstrasse 29, 8045 Zürich (next to Bahnhof Binz and the atelier is at the 3rd floor).
Cost: CHF 125 for one day workshop, including fabric pieces for practising, a plain t-shirt (white or gray) or a tote bag, inks, plastic sheets and other equipment.
There are a limited number of 8 spots for this course, so sign up in advance to guarantee a spot.
